Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma Thursday said Assam and Meghalaya have to act "mutually" through "dialogues and negotiation" to settle the differences along their common border. "We have done our homework, whatever is required to build our case in the right perspective and we have built up our case with enough documents and past records available and we expect Assam to build their own case," Mukul said. He maintained that both the governments has to further adopt a strategy which would be acceptable mutually as "we are talking about settlement of this (boundary) dispute through dialogue, negotiation and discussion by both the parties." Defending his government, Mukul said, "The government in its own wisdom had adopted a resolution to urge the Centre for the constitution of a border commission." However, Assam rejected the idea. Meghalaya and Assam have 12 areas of difference along the inter-state border and the matter got worse when in May 2010 four youths from Meghalaya were shot dead by Assam police during a clash in Langpih. In the state assembly, the Meghalaya government recently laid claim on the official residence of Assam Chief Minister, the Kainadhora hillock guest house at Khanapara, which was vehemently opposed by the MLAs of Assam.
