Exactly a year after an earthquake measuring 6.9 on the Richter scale stuck Sikkim causing widespread devastation, minor tremors were again felt in the state today for a few seconds.
Coincidentally, today's tremors were felt within 15 minutes of the time of last year's quake.
The 6.9-magnitude tremor last year killed close to 111 people. Many people had lost their lives in the 6.9 magnitude earthquake with its epicentre located around the Kanchanjangha Mountain range on the border between Taplejung district and Sikkim, India. One hundred and eleven people died due to devastation caused by the earthquake in India, Bangladesh and south Bhutan. Seventy-five people were killed in India, of them 60 alone in Sikkim.
