Traditional fervour marked Vishwakarma Puja in Guwahati city and different parts of the state on Monday.
Rich tributes were paid to the 'Lord of Engineering' on the occasion of Vishwakarma Puja, as people from different technical and non-technical sections of the society gathered to offer prayers to the Lord seeking a technical snag-free year.
Staff members of government as well as private establishments took part in the puja festivities.
"We decorated our shop on late Sunday night and performed the traditional tool puja on Monday morning. The shops will remain open till the afternoon hours, but no tool and equipment work will be done as this is banned traditionally," said Hiranya Das, owner of a hardware shop in Ganeshguri.
Vishwakarma is the presiding Hindu deity of all craftsmen, architects, mechanics and technicians. He is believed to have fabricated and designed the divine architecture of the universe.
As a mark of reverence, he is not only worshipped by the engineering and architectural community but also by all professionals who worship their tools in his name.
Vishwakarma puja is usually held on September 17 and is specially popular in Assam, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
