One person died after he was attacked by a rhinoceros near Hatikhuli tea estate in Kaziranga in Golaghat district of Assam Friday morning. The victim, Dhunada Bhumij, a labour of the tea garden, had gone out to answer nature’s call when he was attacked by the rhinoceros.
Bhumij who suffered serious wounds in his chest and on his back succumbed to injuries before he could be taken to a hospital.
Incidentally, enraged villagers blocked the national highway accusing forest officials of not doing enough to prevent such incidents and pointed out that incidents of rhinoceros attacking humans have been taken place frequently.
“Similar incidents have been taking place near the Kaziranga National Park but no action has been taken by Forest Department officials to provide security to people living,” an employee of the tea garden told News Live.
“Other labours went to the forest office to inform them of the incident. However, they gave little heed to our complaint,” he added.
The angry villagers also sought compensation from the government for the family of Bhumij.
