Amid protests over the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, the BJP and its allies swept elections to three tribal autonomous councils — the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council (RHAC), Sonowal Kachari Autonomous Council (SKAC) and the Mising Autonomous Council (MAC) — while decimating both the Congress and the AGP.
While the Rabha Hasong Joutha Sangram Samity and the BJP won 35 out of the total 36 seats, the Congress and the AGP could win just one seat each.
On the other hand, the BJP won 20 seats in the 26-member Sonowal Kachari Autonomous Council (SKAC). The Congress managed to bag just 5 seats while one seat went to the kitty of an Independent.
In elections to the Mising Autonomous Council (MAC), the Gana Shakti-BJP combine swept the elections winning 34 out of the 35 seats while one seat went to an Independent.
