73rd I-Day: Police sound bugle in Assam, increase security

Security has been beefed up across Assam and the rest of the Northeast ahead of the 73rd Independence Day with police and paramilitary forces conducting regular checking amid a boycott call by several militant outfits that includes ULFA(I) and the NDFB.

Security in and around Guwahati has also been increased along with other towns of the State while men in khaki are also patrolling vital installations, including oil pipelines and other important locations, to foil possible subversive activities.

Posse of securitypersons are keeping close guard of the parade grounds, including the Veterinary College playground at Khanapara, where the central Independence Day function in the State will be held.

Meanwhile, preperations are on in full swing with bands of various police and NCC units and school and college students carrying out rehearsals.

Various competitions were held among school students at various places in the run-upto the national festival.
