Assam: Elephant calf dies after being hit by Train

GUWAHATI: An elephant calf lost its life after being hit by a train — Kanchenjunga Express — in Pathorkula, Hojai.

The engine of the train hit the elephant when it was trying to cross the railway tracks. The impact was such that the elephant calf was severely injured.

Assam Forest officials and a team of veterinary doctors rushed to the site and rescued the calf and it was taken to Lumding forest camp for treatment.

Later the elephant calf died near Jakhalabandha as it was being taken to Kaziranga.

According to sources, many wild animals have died so far during crossing railway tracks and on its way, trains have killed or left injured many animals in Assam.
