Assam: Four dead so far; 200 people arrested for stoking violence, 1,500 detained

GUWAHATI, Dec 15: Four people have died so far of injuries suffered in police firing while 27 more injured and undergoing treatment in hospital during protest violence in the name of protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act in Assam.

While two persons — Dipanjal Das (21) of Chhaygaon who was working in Rajgarh Road locality and Sam Stafford (16) of Hatigaon —- died on Thursday, Ishwar Nayak (25) of Udalguri succumbed to bullet injuries at the GMCH on Saturday night. On the other hand, another person named Abdul Alim who was injured in police firing at Lalung Gaon on the outskirts of Guwahati on Thursday morning, died at GMCH today.

At least 27 more are still undergoing treatment at GMCH, authorities said.

Meanwhile, GP Singh, ADGP (Law and Order) of Assam Police, told News Live that nearly 200 people have been arrested from various parts of the State for stoking violence while 1,500 people have been detained.
