GUWAHATI: The North East Frontier Railway has cancelled a total of 36 train services for commissioning of the double line in Digaru-Jagiroad section of Lumding division in Assam.
According to a notification, a total of 36 trains have been cancelled that includes 26 trains which are totally cancelled and 10 other that have been cancelled partially.
“Among the 26 cancelled trains, 24 trains are local passenger trains. The reason behind cancellation is because repair work is going on in the double line track in Digaru-Jagiroad section. We decided to carry on the work now as we have noticed low ticket occupancy at the moment. In comparison to last year, ticket sales have decreased to almost 40 per cent. Many people are cancelling their tickets because of the Coronavirus outbreak,” said Nripen Bhattacharyya, public relations officer NFR in a telephonic interview.
“Medical teams are screening passengers not only at Guwahati Railway Station but also in other sensitive Railway Stations including New-Bongaigaon Railway Junction. It is not possible to screen each and every passenger but we are trying our level best. We have also closed down the Railway Stadium, Railway Institute and Community halls including the hall bookings till 30 April,” said NFR PRO Bhattacharyya.
The trains that have been cancelled include:
> 15717- Guwahati-Marianai Intercity-Express that was scheduled to leave on 23 March, 24 March, 25 March, 26 March, 27 March, 28 March and 29 March.
> 15718- Mariani-Guwahati Intercity-Express that was scheduled to leave on 24 March, 25 March, 26 March, 27 March, 28 March,29 March and 30 March.
>15665-Guwahati-Dimapur BG Express that was scheduled to leave on 23 March, 24 March, 25 March, 26 March, 27 March, 28 March and 29 March.
>15666-Dimapur-Guwahati BG Express that was scheduled to leave on 23 March, 24 March, 25 March, 26 March, 27 March, 28 March and 29 March.
>75727- Guwahati-Haibargaon DEMU that was scheduled to leave on 23 March, 24 March, 25 March, 26 March, 27 March, 28 March and 29 March.
