GUWAHATI: The Government of India under the Border Development Programme released funds worth Rs. 191.26 crore to Assam from 2014 to 2019.
This was stated by Minister of State for Home Affairs, Shri Nityanand Rai in a written reply to question in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
Assam shares its international boundary with Bangladesh and Bhutan.
Districts covered
The programme covers 8 districts of Assam viz. Dhubri, Baksa, Chirang, Kokrajhar, Udalguri, South Salmara Mankachar, Karimganj, & Cachar.
Works/Projects under BADP
The works/projects undertaken in border areas relate to the construction of roads, bridges, safe drinking water supply, health, agriculture and allied activities.
Moreover, the funds are also spent on social sector activities such as the creation of social infrastructure, capacity building and skill development, construction of toilets particularly for women, sports activities, promotion of rural tourism, border tourism etc.
