Assam: Suspected ‘ULFA (I)’ kidnap man from Jagun, Tinsukia

Guwahati:  Suspected ULFA (I) militants kidnapped a man from Jagun in Tinsukia district of Assam on Tuesday night.

According to the latest reports, the abducted person has been identified as Baikuntha Handique, a resident of Jagun. Handique was working on Assam- Arunachal border near Wara, Tirup River when he was kidnapped.

It is reported that Handique was kidnapped from his work site by a 6-member group carrying weapons.

Assam Police suspects that the kidnapping was done by a group of ULFA (I) led by Uday Axom and has alerted its counterpart in Arunachal Pradesh to block all exit routes.

The family of the victim is all in shock as the incident came into light only when they saw it on TV. They were unaware of the kidnapping.

“I want my son to return safely as soon as possible. He goes to work every day. He has nothing to do with anything. From the last 10 years he is working on the site. I have no one to suspect. We haven’t received any information from the police yet and we are planning g to go to the police station for further information,” said the father of the victim.
