Desist from spreading rumours in tea garden areas, warns Assam Government

GUWAHATI, Dec 23: The Assam Government Monday said miscreants and rumour-mongers were spreading fake news and trying to disturb peace in tea garden areas of the State.

Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said it has come to the government’s notice that some people are spreading lies and projecting a government scheme in wrong light.

“Rumour-mongers are spreading news that Hindu Bangladeshis will be settled in additional areas tea gardens hold. It’s false, malicious and an attempt to disrupt peace in tea community-dominated localities,” he said.

He also announced that the Government will release appeals through newspapers and warn people from desisting from such activities or else action will be taken against them.

“One may support or oppose the Citizenship (Amendment) Act. But you cannot spread canards or resort to violence,” Sarma said.
