Guwahati: A three-year-old elephant calf has been lying injured and abandoned in a mud pit at Sesapani under Rangjuli forest area in Goalpara district. The locals and the forest officials are trying to get this little one out of its sad state.

According to the forest officials, the elephant calf got injured between a fight within a herd of wild elephants that had entered the paddy fields in search of food. As the elephant calf got injured it could not move out with its herd.

The villagers spotted the elephant calf and informed the forest officials immediately, who then reached the spot and took charge of the situation.

“It looks like the elephant calf has injured its left leg and that is the reason it is not able to move. It seems there was a fight among two herds of wild elephants and the calf got injured in that. As it is in pain, we have decided lift it out and take him to Guwahati for further treatment as soon as possible,” said a forest official.
