GUWAHATI, Nov 17: In a shocking turn of events, the rough elephant ‘Krishna’ that was translocated to Orang National Park from Goalpara after being tranquilised by Sootea MLA Padma Hazarika and his team last Monday (Nov 11), has died. The elephant, earlier mistaken to be another rough elephant whom Rangjuli residents had named ‘Laden’, was renamed ‘Krishna’ by the Sootea legislator after tranquilising him on Monday (Nov 11).

He was shited to Orang National Park where he was being treated by a team of vets. Padma Hazarika, who had visited Orang yesterday to take stock of the health status of ‘Krishna’, had said the elephant was recuperating and that he should have been fully it in a few days.

Orang authorities, however, announced today that the elephant died in the wee hours today.

Although the exact reason of the elephant’s death is not known, reports say it could have died due to the second tranquilisation that was carried out after being translocated to Orang.

The elephant had created a reign of terror in Goalpara district and had trampled five persons to death at Matia on a single day.

The State Forest department, incidentally, failed to tranquilise the elephant. And what the Forest department could not, Padma Hazarika did in a few hours.
