Firing in Dibrugarh city, one hacked to death

Guwahati: A shooting and hacking incident has been reported right in the middle of Dibrugarh city, of Assam.

According to latest media reports, one person identified as Omprakash Agarwal, was first attacked by bike-borne assailants with sharp weapons and was later shot at from close range. The assailants fled taking advantage of darkness as street lights were missing. The incident happened near Idgah field, Paltan Bazar area.

Injured Agarwal was taken to Assam Medical College and Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The shooting took place at around 6:45 PM. Agarwal was an employee of  Vinayak Flour Mill and a resident of Beria Building.

The Dibrugarh Police reached the spot immediately and started investigating. According to the police it will take some time to find out the real cause of death – whether it was due to the attack by sharp weapon or by bullet as a cartridge has been recovered from the spot.
