Five ‘cattle lifters’ thrashed, vehicle torched at Chhaygaon

GUWAHATI, Nov 3: Five persons, who were accused of being involved in cattle theft by local residents of Chhaygaon, were first held and then allegedly physically assaulted. A car reportedly belonging to the five-member group was also torched by people.

Local residents reportedly caught the five persons — Jallaluddin, Alimuddin and Farizur of Balijhar, Boko; Hasan Ali of Goroimari and Abinash Biswas of Barkujuli — who they accused were involved in cattle lifting.

People reportedly thrashed them before they were rescued by police.

The agitated people also set fire to a pick-up van allegedly used to transport the smuggled cattle.
