‘Free Drugs Scheme’ launched for 651 tea garden hospitals in Assam

GUWAHATI: The Assam Government has come up with a scheme in which 651 tea garden hospitals in the state will be provided free medicine.

The Free Drugs Scheme was inaugurated today by Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal at a function in Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra, Guwahati.

Under the Free Drugs Scheme, all 651 tea garden hospitals in Assam will be covered and WHO-GMP certified drugs will be supplied directly from over 100 drug manufacturers, announced Assam Health Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma through a tweet.

At present a total of 142 essential drugs will be supplied free of cost to tea garden hospitals. The Assam Government will spend Rs 20 crore per year for this initiative.

Moreover, the government also announced Rs. 12,000 for pregnant tea garden ladies as compensation to their wages.
