Led by Zubeen Garg, singers and artistes hold ‘cultural protest’ in Guwahati opposing CAA

GUWAHATI, Dec 15: Singers, film personalities, artistes and cultural activists held a protest through songs and music at the Assam Engineering Institute (AEI) playground at Chandmari in Guwahati today.

The unique protests that began at 11 under the aegis of singers, artistes and cultural personalities led by Zubeen Garg was attended by thousands of people.

The AASU leadership also extended their support to the cultural protest with AASU chief adviser Samujjal Bhattacharya, president Dipanka Kumar Nath and general secretary Lurin Jyoti Gogoi, among others, taking part in the programme.

“The artistes, film personalities, singers and the common people of Assam have joined hands to oppose the Citizenship (Amendment) Act. We want to tell the government that you cannot impose the act on us. We will continue to oppose and protest,” Zubeen Garg said.

He, however, asked people to remain vigilant so that a third force cannot derail the peaceful protests and resort to violence.

“People should protest. But the common people should remain vigilant so that a third force and miscreants cannot resort to violence. Everyone should ensure that people do not suffer,” he added.

Iconic songs like “Aah-Aah Ulai Aah…”, “Manuhe Manuhor Babe…” echoed at the AEI playground during the unique protest.

Cultural personalities also took out similar protests in other parts of the State to oppose the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.
