GUWAHATI: In a shocking incident the main accused in Assam’s Rs. 35 crore
agriculture scam Rahul Amin died on Thursday at the Central Jail, Guwahati.
According to the jail authorities, Amin was interacting with other jail inmates
till 11 on Thursday night, but was found dead in the morning hours next day.
Rahul Amin was arrested on 6 th July from Kamalpur by the Bureau of
Investigation of Economic Offences (BIEO) for cheating farmers and taking
money from them and was lodged in Central Jail Guwahati from 10 th July.
However, the wife of the deceased Manjuwara Begum smells foul in regard to
her husband’s death as Amin was absolutely fine when she had met him at
around 3 PM, Thursday, August 1.
When Manjuwara was informed about the death of Amin by the jail
authorities on August 2 at 9 AM she immediately rushed to the Guwahati
Central Jail with her kith and kin.
As per reports, Amin was suffering from an illness since last few days and was
under medication. The family members of Amin have alleged that the jail
administration had asked Rs 20,000 for his treatment instead of sending him
to the hospital.
