Tajia Vandalism: Protests in Dibrugarh demanding release of arrested accused

GUWAHATI, Sep 12: In a fresh turn of events, a section of people today staged a protest outside Dibrugarh Sadar Police Station demanding the release of one of the two persons arrested in connection with the incident of vandalism at Dibrugarh town during a Muharram procession on Tuesday.

Dibrugarh Police had arrested two persons — Fulkan Hussain, who was seen vandalizing three vehicles during the procession, and Azad Khan who, police sources said, instigated his son Majid Khan and Fulkan to vandalise the vehicles.

Incidentally, a large number of people gheraoed the police station and demanded that Azad Khan be released immediately.

Several shopkeepers also downed shutters, some of them forced to do so, by a section of the protesters demanding the release of the arrested duo.

Police has beefed up security to maintain paece and amity.
