GUWAHATI: Amid speculation of the emergence of a new party in Assam before the 2021 assembly polls, veteran Congress leader and former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Thursday said that he will welcome a new political party in Assam.
“I have been saying it for some time that there should be more political parties. Competition should be there. If the new party works for Assam’s people it is well and good. There is no reason for division until a strong and united party is formed. If a political party is started just for namesake then it will be of no use,” said former CM Tarun Gogoi.
“Anyone can form a party as India is a democratic country, but I think the party should be strong. It doesn’t matter who forms the political party. Their main aim should be that they should work against BJP and should work for common people’s interest,” said the veteran Congressman.
