Titabor man gets orders from UK, Germany, USA for his handmade flutes

GUWAHATI: In the world of traditional music, one has to build a relationship with their instrument to let the magic happen on the stage. Chandan Saikia from Titabor, Jorhat, Assam has a mystical bond with his instrument- the flute. His dedication and passion towards his instrument has helped him to set his foot in world of music and become famous.

Chandan Saikia, an avid bamboo flute maker and player from a small town of Assam has made it big worldwide. People from India as well as other countries have appreciated his talent and are buying his hand made bamboo flutes.

Born to Nripen Saikia and Rinu Saikia, Chandan was always interested in music and wanted to do something in this field. Apart from making and playing Flute he also knows how to play Tabla, Dhol, Pepa, Harmonium etc.

Chandan shared his experience, “From a tender age I loved playing instruments and have performed in cultural events, too. After passing high school I shifted to Guwahati and continued my career in the field of music by performing in Bihu Tolis. I even took formal training in flute playing from world-renowned flute player Deepak Sharma.”

Chandan also added that flutes imported from foreign countries don’t have proper tuning and that was the main reason Chandan started making flutes which are more professional and evident. And now, his handmade flutes are much more famous than the imported ones. He regularly gets bulk orders from countries like UK, China, USA, Germany, Thailand etc.
