PUBLISHED:

The recovery of a woman’s body that was found hanging inside the official residence of her husband, a health department official of Lakhimpur, has led to sensation with her family members claiming that she was murdered.

Utpala Baruah was found hanging inside her husband Ranjit Baruah’s official residence in Lakhimpur town.

Utpala’s father said she tortured by her husband and accused his son-in-law of murdering her.

“Her marriage with Ranjit was solemnized in 2006. For some three years, things were good. But after that he started torturing Utpala in the name of dowry,” he said, adding that he had taken a loan in the name of his son-in-law following the dowry demands.

“My daughter was either murdered by Ranjit with the help of one of his friends or she was forced to take the drastic step,” he further said.

“In fact, some two months ago, there was an incident when Ranjit tried to hang her with a rope. It was only for their 10-year-old daughter that her life was saved,” he added.

Utpala’s father has lodged a complaint with police.
