Guwahati: Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan takes a step forward in contributing to the PM-CARES Fund and other Chief Minister’s Relief Funds to help better the lives of those affected by the novel coronavirus.

Taking to Twitter, Shah Rukh Khan announced that all of his business centres – Kolkata Knight Riders, Red Chillies Entertainment, Meer Foundation and Red Chillies VFX – will support the government with monetary contributions.

Re-tweeting a post from the official Twitter handle of Red Chillies Entertainment, he wrote, “In these times it’s imp to make everyone around u working tirelessly for u.. not related to u.. perhaps even unknown to u… to feel they are not alone and by themselves. Let’s just make sure we all do our little bit to look after each other. India and all Indians are One Family”

Here’s a gist of the contributions:

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), co-owned by Gauri Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Juhi Chawla Mehta and Jay Mehta will contribute to the PM-CARES Fund, while Red Chillies Entertainment, owned by Gauri Khan and Shah Rukh Khan, will donate to Maharashtra CM’s Relief Fund.

KKR and Meer Foundation will work with the West Bengal and the Maharashtra governments and contribute 50,000 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kits to healthcare professionals who are fighting this pandemic from the front. They will also work to raise awareness to encourage other contributions.

Meer Foundation along with Ek Saath: The Earth foundation, will provide daily food requirements to over 5,500 families for at least a month in Mumbai. A kitchen will also be set up to send out 2,000 freshly cooked meals every day to help households and hospitals whose daily needs aren’t being fulfilled.

Meer Foundation will also help Roti Foundation, who have tied up with Mumbai Police and are providing meals to underprivileged people and daily wage labourers, and provide 3 lakh meal kits with 10,000 people per day for at least a month.

Meer Foundation in association with Working People’s Charter will provide basic essentials and grocery items for at least a month to over 2,500 daily wage workers who have been identified across Delhi.

Along with this, Meer Foundation will provide a monthly stipend to over 100 acid attack survivors which will take care of their basic needs. The survivors identified are across Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Bihar, West Bengal and Uttarakhand.

In a statement released to the media, SRK said, “Given the enormity of the task, my team and I discussed ways to contribute in our own modest way. We have come up with a series of initiatives, which we hope will make a small difference. The efforts of our Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi ji coupled with the efforts of the Chief Ministers, Shri Uddhav Thackeray ji, Smt Mamata Banerjee, Shri Arvind Kejriwal and all other States and Union Territories leaders have been commendable in fighting this pandemic. We have initially focused our efforts on the three cities – Mumbai, Kolkata and New Delhi with the realisation that this is a start and we stand ready to contribute in whichever way possible going forward.”
