Guwahati : The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) along with  North East Students Organisation (NESO) staged protest against Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB).

AASU on monday staged a joint protest rally starting from Swahid Bhawan to Raj Bhawan, Guwahati.

The Bill is aimed at making minority communities such as Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan eligible to apply for Indian citizenship.

AASU General Secretary, Lurin Jyoti Gogoi addressing the media said that they will not accept CAB under any circumstances. CAB would pose threat to the political rights, language and cuture of the indegenous people of the state. The CAB is in favour of the illegal migrants. This is the reason why the organizations of the indigenous ethnic communities have been agitating against it, said Gogoi.

AASU along with other indigenious ethnic communities of the Northeast India have been protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Bill from 2016.
