GUWAHATI, Sep 24: The Assam Government Tuesday launched twin schemes — the Aponar Apon Ghar Scheme, a home loan subsidy scheme, and the Abhinandan – Education Loan Subsidy scheme. Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had in his State Budget speech earlier this year announced the launch of the Aponar Apon Ghar Scheme.

The Aponar Apon Ghar, an extended version of the previous Apon Ghar Home Loan Subsidy scheme, will provide all citizens a subsidy of upto Rs 2.5 lakh on home loans till Rs 40 lakh.

The scheme was formally launched at NEDFi House in Guwahati by Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

“Every permanent resident of Assam will be eligible to avail the scheme. Government as well as private employees and even journalists can apply and avail benefits of the scheme,” Sarma said after formally launching the scheme.

“An applicant need not come in person to a government office to apply but can apply online once he gets a housing loan. He or she can apply through the finance department’s website finance.assam.gov.in.

On the other hand, the government will provide subsidies on education loans under Abhinandan scheme with Finance Minister Sarma claiming that the government will provide a subsidy of upto Rs 50,000 to all educational loans that are presently active.
