GUWAHATI: The Great Guwahati Marathon 2020 will be held on 1st March. Organised for the first time in Assam by Asmakam Foundation, this is the first night marathon in Guwahati as well as in Northeast India. The marathon will be flagged off from the Veterinary College playground at Khanapara at 05:30 PM. Athletes, including veteran and well-known marathoners, from India and abroad are expected to participate in this exciting event.
Bollywood star Yami Gautam will flag off the event along with Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah and veteran football player Bhaichung Bhutia. Also, the Asmakam Lifetime Achievement Award 2020 will be presented to Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah.
The marathon event has been categorized into the full 42.2-kilometer run, half marathon of 21.1 kilometers, 10 kilometers and 5 kilometers (also for under-18 participants). There will be a 3-kilometer walkathon, too.
According to the organisers this event will become a permanent fixture in the sports calendar and will be held on the last Sunday of February or the first Sunday of March every year.
Along with the marathon and walkathon event, Asmakam Foundation has arranged other attractions including Zumba, live band DJ and Gym activities by certified trainers.
