Gauhati University all set to host 2nd edition of ‘Jonaki’ Film Festival

GUWAHATI: The Department of Communication and Journalism, Gauhati University is all set to organize the second edition of ‘Jonaki’ a film festival on 28th and 29th February.

The film festival will be held at Phanidhar Dutta Memorial Hall and AT Hall located within the University premises. A number of regional films from the northeast region will be screened during the two-day film festival.

Other than the screening of films, the organizing committee has also kept a short film competition and a cinequiz event.

The film festival aims to promote ethnic language films from the Northeast among the students to create awareness of the region. The films include Aamis, Bornodi, Calendar, Mishing, Kanneen, Bulbul Can Sing.

“We are very happy to inform that the students of the Department of Communication and Journalism Gauhati University are going to organize Jonaki, a northeast film festival. This time, the event will be bigger and better. There are chances of delegates from other states coming to join the film festival. It is the second edition, last year we got a very good response from the students and faculty members of the university and also from outsiders, including film enthusiasts. We hope that all the film critics and the film enthusiast will help us turn it into a great success,” said Dr. Ankuran Dutta the HOD, Communication and Journalism, Gauhati University.

Dutta added, “Many people among us cannot accept that cinema plays an important role in our social system and also in our mental and behavioral development. So we have organized this Jonaki film festival and through this people will not only enjoy good cinema but will also get an opportunity for mental and behavioral development in a proper learning environment.”
