GUWAHATI: The All Assam Cab operators Union staged a protest at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport on Saturday against Assam’s Transport Department citing unnecessary harassment on cab drivers and their owners.
The union protested against the RTA’s (Regional Transport Authority’s) rule not allowing cab operators holding permits of three States – Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh – to operate in Guwahati as cabs.
“Many educated youths are employed as cab drivers. Instead of helping them, government is conspiring to ruin thweir livelihood,” said a cab driver.
The drivers threatened to intensify their protests if the department doesn’t revoke their decisions.
