GUWAHATI, Jan 14: The first community refrigerator of Guwahati was inauguarated by Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta in Ganeshguri on Monday.
The community refrigerator has been named “Happy Fridge” as it is aimed at spreading happiness among the needy ones. Anyone with excess amount of food can leave it in the fridge.
A water purifier has also been attached to the community rerigerator.
The project is an initiative of an NGO named Feeding India.
Incidentally, this is the second of its kind in the Northeast. The project was launched in Jorhat in July last year.
“Apart from food, people can also donate clothes”, said a Feeding India official.
The NGO has appealed people willing to donate food or clothes to directly leave the items in the fridge or contact Feeding India officials at +91 6913 8320 90.
Volunteers will collect the donated items and drop the items in the fridge.
