GUWAHATI: Assam Finance, PWD and Health Minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has named a Youth Congress leader for instigating violence outside Assam Secretariat. The minister also disclosed that and a leading academician from Assam was trying to orchestrate the burning of Assam Secretariat at Dispur capital complex.
“His name is Kamrul Islam Choudhury and he is the president of Assam Pradesh Youth Congress. The destruction near Assam Secretariat is the handiwork of this person. The attack on that day was choreographed by Congress workers, I am not talking about the leaders. An active Congress worker used Facebook to call others to reach Gate Number 2 of Janata Bhawan,” said Himanta Biswa Sarma, while showing video footage, Facebook post and images to media persons in Guwahati on Tuesday.
Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma also stated that the government has received electronic evidence that an intellectual from a prominent Central Government institution was coordinating the attackers. Without naming the person the minister said that this Central Government employee was instructing the protesters to burn down the Janata Bhawan (Assam Secretariat).
“We have received evidence where we hear instructions on how to burn down Janata Bhawan. The instruction was given by a very leading academician of Assam. He is a silent operator who was controlling the attack on Janata Bhawan using his telephone. This person was instructing the protesters that leaders should stay away and protesters should then go and attack Janata Bhawan,” said the minister.
“There is no relation of the AASU (All Assam Students’ Union) protest with this plan of burning the Assam Secretariat. Taking advantage of the movement these elements were planning a big conspiracy to burn down the Assam Secretariat that we are going to expose soon,” said Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.
“We have received a lot of images and videos where PFI (Popular Front of India) and Campus Front of India which are frontal organisations of Student Islamic Organisation are involved. In next two to three days we will be able to disclose the names and addresses of these PFI members,” stated Dr. Sarma.
Himanta Biswa Sarma also announced that an SIT (Special Investigation Team) headed by DIG Mridulananda Sarma has been formed to probe the violence that took place in the guise of protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019.
