Robbers on the prowl; aged woman robbed of ₹ 50,000 in Guwahati

GUWAHATI, Nov 21: Robbers and miscreants are targeting people at will with incidents of thefts, burglaries and snatchings on the increase in Guwahati.

In another incident that highlights increasing incidents of snatchings, an aged woman was robbed off ₹ 50,000 in broad daylight in Noonmati locality of Guwahati today.

The victim, who has been identified as Asthami Bharali living in Noonmati Sector 2, was returning home after withdrawing ₹ 50,000 from SBI’s Noonmati branch when two motorcycle-borne miscreants snatched the bag containing the money and fled.

Eyewitnesses said they saw the miscreants making good their escape after snatching the bag containing the money. They also accused the police of doing very little to contain rising incidents of thefts and burglaries in the area.

The incident at Noonmati is the second case of snatching reported in Guwahati in the past 48 hours. Two unidentified miscreants had allegedly looted a bag containing ₹2 lakh from a woman in Narengi area on Tuesday.

Police said they have launched an investigarion into today’s incident but are yet to identify the miscreants involved in the snatching.
