₹ 2,000 makes 56% of all seized counterfeit notes: NCRB data

GUWAHATI:  According to latest National Crime Records Bureau(NCRB) report 56 per cent of fake currency notes seized in India after demonetization are of Rs. 2000 denomination.

NCRB’s latest annual report titled ‘Crime in India’ reveals that in 2017 and 2018, law enforcement agencies seized Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) amounting to Rs 46.06 crore.

As per the report, the fake Rs 2,000 notes contribute the most towards the overall value of seized fake Indian currency notes. In 2017, its share was 53.3 per cent and increased to 61.01 per cent in 2018.

Meanwhile, most of the fake currency has been seized from the state of Guajrat. The law enforcement agencies had seized 34,680 fake Rs. 2,000 currency notes from Gujarat by the end of 2018. It was followed by West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh where fake Rs. 2000 currency notes worth Rs. 3.5 crore, Rs. 2.8 crore and Rs. 2.6 crore were seized respectively, were seized.
