Congress releases poll manifesto

PUBLISHED:

The Congress party today (April 2) released its election manifesto promising, among others, Rs 72,000 per person as part of its minimum income guarantee scheme and promising to fill up  22 lakh vacancies by 2020 March.

In the manifesto titled ‘Hum Nibhayeingey’, the Congress party promised to review implementation of AFSPA besides promising to make farm loan default a civil offence and not a criminal offence.

“When we started this process about a year back, I spoke to P Chidamabaram and Gowda and gave them two instructions. I said this is not a manifesto to be made in closed rooms but this should reflect the wishes of the people of India,” ANI quoted Congress President Rahul Gandhi as saying.

“I also said that whatever is going to be in this manifesto has to be truthful. I do not want a single thing in this manifesto that is a lie because we have been hearing large number of lies spoken everyday by our PM,” the Congress president stated.

The manifesto also promised to increase the number of days of entitled work to a family from 100 to 150 under MNREGA, Rahul Gandhi further said.
