Assam Govt launches scheme for pregnant tea garden women

Adding another feather to the Assam Health Department’s cap, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal launched the Wage Compensation Scheme for Pregnant Women in Tea Gardens of Assam in the presence of Finance and Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Labour Minister Pallab Lochan Das, MoS (Health) Pijush Hazarika, Jorhat MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa and other MLAs in Guwahati today (Oct 1).

Under the scheme, pregnant tea garden women will be entitled to a monetary benefit of Rs 12,000 that will be paid in four installments till six months of childbirth so that they can look after themselves and their babies.

Women living in tea garden areas above 18 years of age and conforming to the 2-child norm of the government will be eligible for the financial benefit.

The first installment cheques were also distributed among beneficiaries during today’s programme.

On the other hand, SIM cards were also distributed among ASHA workers to ensure that they can work in a better and more coordinated way.
