Flood batters Assam, hundreds of villages inundated

The flood situation in several districts of Assam remained grim with a rise in the water level of the Brahmaputra and its tributaries in the past 24 hours. Surging waters of the Brahmaputra and its tributaries have inundated several villages in Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Golaghat and Tinsukia districts.

 Several villages in Bokakhat subdivision are under water after floodwater of the Brahmaputra and Dhansiri entered human settlements. Floodwaters also entered schools forcing students to keep away from their studies.

Flood-hit people of the subdivision have alleged apathy on the part of administration officials, accusing them of not providing them with any relief.

Meanwhile, the Jiadhal and Kumotia rivers are also in spate and have submerged houses and croplands in villages in Dhakuakhana and Dhemaji.

The Brahmaputra is flowing the danger mark in Gohpur, Dibrugarh and have inundated hundreds of village.

Meanwhile, hundreds of people were stranded at Kabu Chapori in Jonai as the water level of the Siang increased once again following heavy rainfall. 123 stranded people were were rescued from the river island by NDRF and SDRF personnel.
