Intercity Express Blast | ULFA (I) says not involved

PUBLISHED:

The Paresh Baruah-led ULFA (Independent) has denied its involvement in the blast inside the Kamakhya-Dekargaon Intercity Express near Harisinga railway station in Udalguri district yesterday (Dec 1). Paresh Baruah told News Live over telephone from an undisclosed location that the outfit is not involved in the explosion, neither directly nor indirectly.

Meanwhile, Udalguri Police claimed the explosion was a low-intensity one and that they are probing as to who could be behind the blast as well as the nature of the explosion although it appears as if a handmade grenade was used to trigger the blast.

Meanwhile, Police and RPF personnel have increased security across the State with men in khaki carrying out checking and frisking at extry and exit routes in Guwahati and other towns and in railway stations and other vulnerable installations.

Significantly, NEWS LIVE carried out a special investigation on the security mechanism in place at railway stations in the State. And to our utter shock and dismay, our crew found the metal detecting door at the Gauhati Railway Station has been out of order for more than six months. RPF officers were using hand-handled detectors to frisk passengers and check luggages.
