MARTYR MANESWAR BASUMATARY CREMATED WITH FULL STATE HONOUR

CRPF trooper Maneswar Basumatary, who was killed in the attack on a CRPF convoy at Awantipora in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday (Feb 14), was given a State funeral at his native Kalbari village in Tamulpur in Assam’s Baksa district today (Feb 16). Thousands of people attended the cremation that was performed as per Bathow tradition.

Assam Industries, Transport and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, Media advisor to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal Hrishikesh Goswami along with other government and police personnel were present when the cremation was performed.

Earlier in the evening, the mortal remains were flown to Guwahati with Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Finance, Health and PWD minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Industries minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, Chief Secretary Alok Kumar, DGP Kuladhar Saikia, former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi along with other government officials, IAF personnel, political leaders and others paid their tributes to the departed soul at the Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport at Borjhar.

The mortal remains were then flown to Kalbari where it was consigned to flames.
