Tinsukia schoolgirl joins ULFA(I)!

A teenaged girl in Eastern Assam’s Tinsukia district is believed to have joined the outlawed anti-talks faction of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) — the United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) or ULFA(I). The development comes amid man youths disappearing from their homes who, police believe, might have joined the recalcitrant outfit.

Ninteen-year-old Karishma Mech, hailing from Lekhapani in Tinsukia district of Assam who studied up to Class X, has been missing for the past couple of months and is believed to have joined ULFA(I).

Karishma’s mother said she went missing in May and they thought she might have eloped with some youth, adding that they were surprised at reports of her joining the anti-talks ULFA faction.

Incidentally, a former AASU leader from Dergaon also went missing but later posted a video of him with an assault rifle announcing that he had joined ULFA(I).

Two other youths from Udalguri and are believed to have joined the militant outfit after mysteriously disappearing from their homes.
