Abhijeet-Nilotpal’s parents want court proceedings in Guwahati

PUBLISHED:

Demanding capital punishment for the accused, the mother of Abhijeet Nath on Saturday said that the hearing should be shifted to a neutral place, preferably Guwahati from Diphu. Speaking on News Live’s programme ‘Prasangik’, the parents of Nilotpal Das and Abhijeet Nath also thanked the Karbi Anglong police for filing the charge sheet on the Dokmoka incident within 90 days.

Participating in the programme, the parents of Nilotpal and Abhijeet further demanded for a fast-track trial of the case. Karbi Anglong Police Saturday had submitted a 46-page charge sheet at the Karbi Anglong Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court in Diphu in connection with the Dokmoka lynching incident. Abhijeet Nath and Nilotpal Das, both hailing from Guwahati, were lynched by a murderous mob at Panjuri village under Dokmoka Police Station on June 8 earlier this year.

Police, in the charge sheet that was filed 80 days after the spine-chilling incident, named all 48 arrested persons as accused under sections 302, 341, 427, 143, 144, 148 and 149 of the IPC. Two cases (case numbers 32/2018 and 33/2018 at Dokmoka Police Station) were filed while the statements of 71 witnesses were recorded. Along with the charge sheet, a 104-page case diary was also submitted in court.
