Amid the 10-day ban on fish imported to Assam from other States following the detection of formalin, tests carried out by another team of experts from Andhra Pradesh have also confirmed the presence of chemicals in fish. A four-member team of experts from Andhra Pradesh led by the additional director of the State’s Fishery department carried out tests on four truckloads of fish and found the presence of formalin in boxes that were not sealed.
The tests were conducted at Rangia in the presence of officials of the Assam Fisheries department.
“The tests have revealed that there are traces of formalin in boxes that have not been sealed while fish in sealed boxes were found to be safe,” an official from Assam who was part of the joint team that conducted the tests told News Live.

Andhra Pradesh government had sent a team of experts to conduct joint tests on fish samples to verify if fish imported from the State were injected with formalin.
The Assam Government had on Tuesday (July 10) banned fish imported from other States for ten days after tests on fish samples collected from various markets tested formalin positive. Pijush Hazarika, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, also warned erring fish traders of legal action, including arrests and jail terms, if they sell formalin-injected fish.
