Alliance inked, AGP ministers withdraw resignations

PUBLISHED:

The three AGP ministers today (March 13) resumed charge of the ministries they were holding after a meeting with Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. A delegation of the AGP legislature party with the exception of former chief minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta met Sarbananda Sonowal at the latter’s official residence in Guwahati with the three AGP ministers — Atul Bora, Keshab Mahanta and Phani Bhushan Choudhury — withdrawing their resignation letters.

Finance, Health and PWD Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and State BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass was also present in today’s meeting.

The development came after the AGP and BJP forged a pre-poll alliance last night.

The three AGP ministers had resigned from the ministry in January after the AGP pulled out of the BJP-led alliance opposing the Narendra Modi government’s decision to go ahead with the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.

The bill was tabled and passed in Lok Sabha but was, however, not tabled in the upper house of Parliament.
