APSC Scam: All 19 officers arrested after handwriting test

All nineteen ACS, APS and allied service officials who were summoned by Dibrugarh Police for a handwriting verification test have been arrested, police sources said. The 19 officers had deposed before cops at the Special Branch headquarters at Kahilipara in Guwahati today morning (July 18).

Among the 19 arrested officials, 13 are ACS officers, three APS, a district transport officer (DTO) and two tax officials.

The arrested officers are Suranjita Hazarika (DTO), Utpal Bhuyan (ACS), Barnali Das (ACS), Susovan Das (ACS), Dhruvojyoti Chakraborty (ACS), Manzoor Ilahi Laskar (ACS), Moon Mazoomdar (ACS), Mustafa Ahmed Borbhuyan (ACS), Saibur Rahman Borbhuyan (ACS), Monika Teronpi (ACS), Ganesh Chandra Das (ACS), Srabanti Sen Gupta (ACS), Deepsikha Phukan (ACS), Leena Krishna Kakati (ACS), Gulshan Daolagpu (APS), Pallabi Sharma (APS), Bhargav Phukan (APS), Rituraj Neog (Tax Superintendent) and Nipon Kumar Pathak (Tax Inspector).

Among the arrested officials are a few high-profile names, including Pallabi Sharma — Tezpur MP RP Sharma’s daughter — Monika Teronpi, a relative of BJP leader and former Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) CEM Joyram Engleng.

The arrested officials had cleared the last APSC exams, results of which were declared in 2016. 

Thirty-seven officers who allegedly bribed or influence APSC officials to clear the recruinment test conducted by the APSC had earlier been arrested along with suspended APSC chairman Rakesh Kumar Paul, commission members Basanta Doley, Samedur Rahman and a few other commission officials.
