BJP to continue alliance with AGP

PUBLISHED:

BJP’s alliance with the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) will continue and that the former won’t take any step to snap ties with its regional partners. This was announced by Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi today (Dec 20).

Chief Minister Sonowal and Finance, Health & PWD Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma slammed the Congress party and its president Rahul Gandhi and said the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have been tirelessly working for the development of Assam and the Northeast.

Chief Minister Sonowal accused the Congress party and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of neglecting Assam and doing nothing for speedy completion of Bogibeel Bridge although the latter represented the State in the upper house of Parliament.

“The Congress party and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh did very little for the progress and speedy development of Assam and the Northeast. It’s under the BJP and Prime Minister Modi’s leadership that the Northeast has become a hub of socio-economic activities. History will remember him as the Prime Minister to have inaugurated two bridges over the Brahmaputra,” Sonowal said, referring to the Dhola-Sadiya Bridge that PM Modi inaugurated and the Bogibeel Bridge he will be inaugurating on December 25 this year.

Himanta Biswa Sarma singled out Rahul Gandhi over his comments on the GST claiming that on one hand the Congress president ridicules GST as ‘Gabbar Singh Tax’ while on the other demands that petrol and diesel be brought under the ambit of GST.

The two leaders also claimed that BJP’s popularity and acceptability has been on the upswing while that of the Congress is on the decline and that the panchayat poll results is a clear pointer to the increasing popularity of the party in the State.

Assam State BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass also accompanied Sonowal and Sarma during their interaction with media persons at the BJP headquarters.
