Five persons — Shymal Biswas, Ananta Biswas, Abhinash Biswas (all belonging to a single family), Subal Das and Dhananjay Namsudra — were killed in indiscriminate firing by unidentified gunmen at Kharbari Bisonimukh village near Dhola in Assam’s Tinsukia district on Thursday night.
Although police suspected the involvement of the anti-talks faction of the ULFA or the ULFA(I), the outfit distanced itself from the massacre claiming that it is not involved in the killings.
Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, while condemning the “attack on innocent people at Sadiya” announced “strongest action against the perpetrators of this heinous crime” besides directing “all law enforcing agencies to maintain peace and take stern action against anybody trying to destabilise our peaceful society and state”.
