Didi sees red after release of NRC final draft

PUBLISHED:

Trinamool Congress supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has cut a sorry image of herself after she slammed the NRC update process following the publication of the final draft of the citizens’ register. Terming the release of the final NRC draft that aims to identify foreigners entering Assam after March 25, 1971, the West Bengal chief minister termed the entire exercise a “divide-and-rule policy”.

“It’s against humanity that people are being isolated in their own country. The BJP is identifying people who did not vote for the party and turning them into refugees in their motherland,” Mamata Banerjee said in a hurriedly convened presser in Kolkata before flying off to New Delhi.

The West Bengal chief minister further said she will seek an appointment with Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and take up the issue with him.

Incidentally, she tried to paint a picture of Assam being pushed to the limits and a clampdown launched following the release of the final NRC draft.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, meanwhile, claimed no matter how much people try to spread canards, the age-old spirit of brotherhood and amity will always hold good among various communities living in Assam.
