Hizbul Crackdown: NIA, UP ATS teams interrogate 7 arrested conduits

PUBLISHED:

Separate teams of the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) sleuths and Hojai Police interrogated the seven arrested associates of Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Qamer-uz-Zaman at Doboka. The seven persons were arrested on charges of maintaining contact with the arrested Hizbul terrorist and helping him during his visit to Assam in August this year.

Hojai Police and the team from UP ATS have been interrogating the seven arrested accused — Shahnawaz Alom, Saidul Alom, Saiful Islam, Omar Farooq, Riyazuddin, Joynaluddin and Baharul Islam — ever since launching the crackdown on the Pakistani terrorist organization and its efforts to set up modules and bases.

Sources said the arrested associates of Qamer have divulged sensational information regarding the arrested Hizbul terrorist and also about his plans to expand Hizbul’s terror network in Assam.

Qamer-uz-Zaman, who had joined the Pakistani terrorist organization sometime in the latter half of 2017 and had posted a photograph of him with an AK-47 assault rifle claiming to have joined the terrorist organization, was arrested from Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh by UP ATS on charges of planning terror strikes during Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.

Meanwhile, people in Jamunamukh from where Qamer-uz-Zaman hailed, took out a protest rally denouncing terror of any kind and demanding stringent punishment for anybody found to be involved in anti-national activities.
