Debashis Khargharia, arrested in connection with the death of his parents (his father Rajani Khargharia allegedly committed suicide while his mother Ruby passed due to want of medicines), today (July 20) claimed innocence and said the truth will come to the fore in the coming days. Debashis was arrested from Six Mile locality of Guwahati yesterday (July 19) after being on the run for 19 days.
“I am innocent. The truth will come out. I have full faith on our justice delivery system,” he said.
Debashis, meanwhile, was remanded in police custody for three days after being produced in court.
Amid the developments, two of Debashis’ sisters — eldest sister Mridusmita and third of the trio Monika — have taken opposite stands after the arrest of their brother. While Mridusmita is of the view that her brother is innocent and blames her parents for their tragic fate, Monika, who had filed the police complaint against brother Debashis, blames him for their parents’ deaths.
Monika, on the other hand, expressed her unhappiness over Sivasagar police failing to arrest her sister-in-law (Debashis’ wife) despite reports that the couple had been together while they were on the run.
