In another sensational incident, a jilted lover threw acid on a college girl at Pathalipahar in Lakhimpur district of Assam, allegedly after she and her family rejected his marriage proposal. The girl is a student of Sankardev College at Pathalipahar in Lakhimpur and was returning home from college along with another friend when the incident took place.
The victim is a degree first semester student of the college while the accused youth is not a student of the college.

The boy, who was in a car along with another friend, waylaid the two girls and tried to pull them into the vehicle. But when they resisted and tried to raise a hue and cry, he allegedly threw acid at her. The victim suffered burn injuries and was first rushed to a hospital at Laluk and was later shifted to Lakhimpur Civil Hospital for better treatment.
The victim’s friend also suffered minor injuries after a few drops of acid fell on her as well.
The accused youth is presently on the run.

Meanwhile, students of Sankardev College resorted to a road blocked demanding the immediate arrest of the accused youth besides seeking exemplary punishment.
Police have begun investigations and have fanned out teams to arrest the accused.
