Minor student killed in wall collapse at Sonari school

A Class IV student succumbed to his injuries suffered after a portion of a wall collapsed on him at a school in Sonari in Charaideo district of Assam. Rongrajan Mohan, a student of St. Joseph’s High School, Sonari, suffered serious injuries after a portion of an old toilet block fell on him and another student while he was playing with some of his classmates in the school campus last Thursday (August 9).

The minor boy, the only child of his parents, was rushed to a private nursing home in Dibrugarh where he was kept under life support. However, his health deteriorated further and he succumbed to his injuries around 12:30 am today (Aug 13) amid preparations to shift him to New Delhi for better treatment using the services of an air ambulance.

The incident has led to sensation in Sonari with people holding the school authorities responsible for the incident. School authorities, meanwhile, expressed grief and have announced a two-day mourning during which the school will remain closed.

The Charaideo district administration, on the other hand, has declared a magisterial inquiry into the incident. The inquiry will be conducted by Additional Deputy Commissioner PK Bora.
